Camera malfunction - I'm not sure what went wrong here, but this image is in colour!

I'm sure most visitors to my pages will be familiar with Ian Bramham's photography Ian Bramham. I've followed his emerging talent since he first bought a DSLR - not that his talent took long to emerge. I'm sure any viewers who have not seen his work will appreciate this link.

Wonderful

@Didier DE ZAN: Thanks Didier

Mike from Lichfield, United Kingdom

An excellent photo that would look good hung on my wall or anyone else's for that matter. I can't fault it in any way. It was very nice of the bird to pose for you.

@Mike: Its all a question of timing. I must have pressed the shutter at just the right moment... which needs to be explained. This is one of my sequence shots with the camera set on interval mode, then left for a couple of hours while I work in a different room. I vary the interval, usually somewhere between 3 and 15 minutes depending on how fast I think the light is changing. The shots are mainly concerned with light and tide - but now and again a bird will happen to fly by just as the camera shoots. So a lot of this is by chance - though something made me start the sequence at the exact moment that I did...

Ted from South Wales, United Kingdom

A la Bramham...you do colour very well...perhaps we'll see more?

11 Mar 2009 7:32am

@Ted: Thanks Ted. The vast majority of my photos are black and white, and if it were a film camera I'd rarely load it with colour... Actually, that wouldn't be true these days, I would shoot colour trannies and have high res scans to manipulate digitally. I tend to use colour where the subject is really shouting for it, or if I like the image but simply can't make sense of it in black and white. The ratio tends to be quite low at present.

Hoshisato from Ealing, United Kingdom

Even though I usually prefer black and white, I prefer this shot if I compare it to the photos of the same location you posted the last few days. What I like about this version is the detail in the sky and foreground whereas the layers are more pronounced. Very nice photo!

11 Mar 2009 8:08am

@Hoshisato: Thank you - I prefer this to the previous two. It is a far more complete image.

Peter Miller from Lichfield, United Kingdom

Not sure if I prefer colour or mono, it depends what day it is for me but this is a very peaceful, ambient , moody composition, tres bon

@Peter Miller: I'll need to experiment to see which day of the week is a colour day!

Mirza Ahmad from Thames Ditton, United Kingdom

Nice capture John with a good range of tones.

Cricket-Tammy from United States

This image is lovely in color. It changes the setting completely. I am also a big fan of just B & W but I seem to always throw in a color one every now and then. Lately more now than again (Spring fever and the desire for winter to go away).

11 Mar 2009 1:48pm

@Cricket-Tammy: I've seen a few spring shots today bringing a breath of fresh colour to the year. The colour of new fresh leaves is one of my favourite times of year - though such a brief moment.

hugo poon from hong kong, Hong Kong

Oh my, what an amazing charm!!! I've got 100% carried away... simply my favourite pic of the day!:-)

Stu from Kyoto, Japan

This is just beautiful. And still easily recognizeable as the same scene that was harshly processed previously. I have to say that I think I prefer this one, and can see why you keep on returning to this spot.

Ian Bramham from Manchester, United Kingdom

definitely one of my favourites of your photos of this location....fantastic colour.

12 Mar 2009 3:21pm

@Ian Bramham: Thanks Ian, there's a lot of life in that colour, quite moody, but very subtle, and I don't recall doing much pp on it either.

john4jack from Corvallis, United States

Stunning! I am so delighted to have found you.
