Mist over the bay

Posted by John Leech (Grange-over-Sands, United Kingdom) on 12 March 2009 in Landscape & Rural and Portfolio.

An aggressively processed view through the mist.

I'm sure most visitors to my pages will be familiar with Ian Bramham's photography Ian Bramham. I've followed his emerging talent since he first bought a DSLR - not that his talent took long to emerge. I'm sure any viewers who have not seen his work will appreciate this link.

Didier DE ZAN from somewhere, France

Beautiful treatment beautiful photograph

@Didier DE ZAN: Thanks Didier, it was quite an experimental image - the mist was quite thick and I could not see the hill at all without the camera. The scene as shot was very thin and needed a lot of processing to see much anything at all.

Stefan from Thiersee, Austria

GREAT!!!

WABIKOJA from Shiga, Japan

A fascinating, and very nicely processed, photograph.

@WABIKOJA: Thank you Wabikoja, I was quite surprised at how much data was hidden in the original, very pale image.

I love the grain on this one John!

@Ian Bramham: This is one of my faves of the scene. The grain is all a product of pushing a thin original to see what was there, nothing added.

Stu from Kyoto, Japan

There's a very "arty" feel to this one - in that it could be a piece of art rather than a photograph. I like how you've pushed it so far - that it's been brought down to it's most basic elements: light and dark, but that the original form is still just visible through the grain.

@Stu: Thanks Stu - it is maybe my most extreme version of this view, and one of my grainiest images where the original data from the camera is of little importance.

john4jack from Corvallis, United States

Marvelous grain and tones!

Wow, this is beautiful! I love the grain. Such a simple landscape but really stunning. You should certainly print this one!

Nicely "pushed", really like the grain on this.

I like the way that hill comes together with the straight lines below. Nice image.

hugo poon from hong kong, Hong Kong

It's a rare experience that a landscape image is inducing such a depth of emotional response..... amazing work, John!
It's a great delight to visit your blog each day!

13 Mar 2009 12:21am

@hugo poon: Thanks Hugo - I don't know how long I'll be able to maintain the flow. Reactions to the next image should be interesting - assuming I get any written reactions at all!

Mike from Lichfield, United Kingdom

It's come out well, very artistic.

Momo from Montpellier, France

ooh, this is sweet...all these have this minimalist feel, japanese old paintings, straddling the fence between photography, paintings, and some unconscious life...i don't want to get into any talk of series or no, if these work alone or no...for me they all stand up fine on their own...I'm thinking of your image 'Mist'...

If I saw this within the walls of an exhibition hall, I'd expect to read
