I like, but still have no idea how you are doing it and if there is an "bigger picture" point to it all. :)

@Ken: The newspaper image is overlaid on two extra layers with one copy reversed - the dark on is set to darken, the light one set to lighten. Then layer masks are used to balance up the image. Good question about the bigger picture. This is all an experiment looking at type on images, in both shots text has no connection with the images. At some stage I may put it to better use.
