Red Pike

Posted by John Leech (Grange-over-Sands, United Kingdom) on 30 June 2010 in Sport & Recreation and Portfolio.

9am, Saturday morning, the second climb of the day. For Mick, the guy 2nd from the right, this was 15 hours into the Bob Graham Round 24 hour challenge. 10 more peaks to go (including Kirk Fell and Great Gable visible to the right) 32 complete.

Ideal conditions at this point, and almost 3 hours ahead of schedule. He dropped back later suffering from overall pace and heat when down in the still air of the valleys, but still managed to dip below 22 hours total.

I think they're climbing out of hell, getting closer to heaven. Wonderful!

30 Jun 2010 2:24pm

@Bettina: It is a heavenly place. I've been on that section in all weathers - and it is special every time. Blizzard snow, scorching hot, clear, fog, rain, the lot. Its one of my favourite places on the planet.

This is a great dramatic image John, and such a great change to see people in your landscape shots.

30 Jun 2010 5:17pm

@Curly: Heh, I'd not really thought about it, but now you mention it, they do appear to be a little startled as though they don't belong in my landscape!

très beau noir et blanc, cette luminosité s'échappant des nuages est superbe, la composition est impeccable, la différence d'émotion entre le personnage du premier qui à fini de fournir son effort et le reste de la bande est palpable !! Peace !

@LB Vision: Merci LB, I don't think I could have asked these guys to pose better than they appear here!
